C + J

I found this on Elise's blog, who apparently found it on Dooce's blog, and when I went to her site to get the link for her name I discovered that she got it from Facebook. Such is the internet, yes? Anyway, it's kinda fun! I sent it to Jason, too, so we'll see if he actually replies and how our answers compare. :)

What are your middle names?
Cameron and Edgar.

How long have you been together?
We've been married for 9 years next month and together for 10.5.

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
We were best friends for a year and a half before we became a couple.

Who asked whom out?
Hmmm... it kind of just happened, like a gravitational force pulling us together. :)

How old are each of you?
We're both 33, although I always think we are one year older than we are. Jason's birthday is in June so as soon as he has his birthday I start thinking of us as his new age, and by the time my birthday rolls around in October I just add another year. So Jason will turn 34 in June, I'll start saying we're 34, then in October I'll say I'm 35, ha ha! I always tell people the wrong age when they ask me and then catch myself... they probably think I'm nuts, not remembering how old I am! :)

Whose siblings do you see the most?
It's been about even, I think, at least last year since my sister had a baby and I went to visit her twice. But Jason's sister travels more and usually travels home (to Oregon) when we travel home, so it's easier to see her; I have to make more of an effort to see my sister (and her babies!).

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
I think this question is intended to mean an ongoing situation, but I can't read it without my brain screaming, "South Korea!" Living on different continents for a year, separated by not only the largest ocean in the world but also by two entirely different cultures and a 17 frickin' hour time difference is not easy on a marriage, yo. What didn't kill us made us stronger but what a friggin' price to pay.

Did you go to the same school?
Nope.

Are you from the same home town?
Nope. We grew up about 45 minutes apart, which means when we travel home we are ping-pong balls bouncing back and forth between our parents' houses. :P

Who is smarter?
Jason is smarter when it comes to engineering-type things, mechanical-type things, history, and things like that. I'm smarter in other ways. We're a good team. :)

Who is the most sensitive?
The person who cries at tv commercials, gets depressed watching the news, and writes this blog. (Jason is sensitive in certain ways, too, but he wouldn't want me ruining his tough-guy image.) :)

Where do you eat out most as a couple?
We don't eat out a lot... maybe once a month or every six weeks? We usually eat out only if we're out for an appointment or doing something and are away from home at dinnertime, and then we eat wherever is convenient. If we choose to go out just for fun it's usually to Okra's, a Cajun place near us, or Sweetwater Tavern, a grill place that brews their own beer.

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Farthest from where? :P Our longest trip together was probably from Oregon to Italy, but South Korea and Romania both felt further. :)

Who has the craziest exes?
That depends on how you define crazy. I definitely have more exes. :P

Who has the worst temper?
J fo' sho'.

Who does the cooking?
I do. Jason grills, though. When we lived in Las Vegas I worked later than Jason did so he cooked... we had a rotating menu of tacos, nachos, burritos, spaghetti, and burgers. The grocery list was super short. :) I didn't learn to cook until we moved to Ohio and Jason was in grad school.

Who is the neat-freak?
HA. Jason and I were discussing this last night with John since Oprah's Clutter Challenge was on again yesterday. He reminded me that when we both took Myers-Briggs our profiles revealed that we both have a desire to have clean, organized spaces, but aren't capable of making them that way ourselves. Obviously we need Peter Walsh to come visit us!

Who is more stubborn?
Jason would say that I am; I might be more stubborn in some ways but I'm also a lot more yielding in other ways. I would say it's a wash. Jason will still say that I am, so what does that say about who's more stubborn? :)

Who hogs the bed?
Jason Jason Jason Jason. He will say I hog the covers, though. I don't hog them, they just like me better and come to my side.

Who wakes up earlier?
Jason does. Although lately I've been waking up at 4 a.m. for no apparent reason. I usually get back to sleep eventually, though, while Jason leaves for work at the crack of dawn.

Where was your first date?
With each other? Ha. Our first "date" when we first met was to Chili's for lunch. Jason forgot his wallet. And he wonders why we were just friends for a year and a half after that, ha ha!

Who is more jealous?
Luckily neither of us is jealous by nature. I think it helps that we were best friends first, so we knew even before dating that we're both seriously monogamous. South Korea did a number on me, though; when I went to visit I had dozens of girls (I'm not kidding) telling me how lucky I was to be married to Jason, what a wonderful guy he is, so handsome, so smart, so kind etc. I started to get a complex and at one point when a girl came up and hugged Jason while I was a few yards away I asked her, "Hello, who are you, woman hugging my husband?" Ha ha! Luckily we're past all that. :)

How long did it take to get serious?
A year and a half of best-friendship. Then as soon as we were a couple we got pretty serious--I followed him to Las Vegas to live after only three weeks of dating and two months later we were engaged. :) When Jason told his coworkers in Vegas that I was coming to live with him they all said, "Are ya freakin' nuts? You've been dating three weeks!" Then I moved down and they all said, "Oh, okay, we get it now."

Who eats more?
Hopefully Jason! I eat more junk, though... I'm working on that!

Who does the laundry?
Not the person who has to phone me to ask how to use the washer and dryer, that's for sure. :)

Who's better with the computer?
Jason's better with things like virus scans, networks, hardware, and all that jazz. I'm better with software like Excel, Access, Photoshop, etc.

Who drives when you are together?
Jason, 99% of the time. When he drives, I'm stressed. When I drive, he makes me stressed. If I'm going to be stressed either way I'd rather have him drive. ;)

Favorite {Photo} Friday will be up later. :)

Fun Weekend Time-Wasters

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to all of us here in America! Of course the very best thing about today, a hundred thousand times better than a three day weekend, is that TODAY is the very last day that Bushy will have "President" in front of his name without "Former" in front of that. Hooray! I really don't mean to get all political on here but I just can't tell you how happy I am about that.

So, you have seen this, yes? My friends Andrea and Scott Obamicon'd their dalmation, Dodger, and it is just the cutest thing. Here is me, not nearly as cute as Dodger, but fun nonetheless.

After I did this one I came downstairs to the big computer with the fancy photo editing software and digitally cut out the background of my photo so you can see the blue and red halves behind me.

It's really fun because you can zoom in and out and move your photo around and play with the amounts of each color shown. You can see the difference in these two even though they came from the same photo (except for the cut-out background in the second shot). Head on over to Obamicon Me to make one yourself (and to see all the cute ones other people have done--I think my favorite is of Kermit and underneath it says, "Frogress")!

If you still have more time to waste, then head on over to this great blog. It's all about the love, man.

I've not submitted my own "I love you more than..." because I keep reading through everyone else's and finding so many that are so good. Some are hilarious, some are heartbreaking, some are just plain weird. I chose this set to put here in the blog 'cause I could have written Sharpie markers or inside jokes; both are major loves. • ... you love me, especially now that I know you're gay.
  • ... my car seat warmer on cold mornings.
  • ... underfloor heating.
  • ... all those prostitutes. [Doesn't this make you wonder if a guy loves a girl more than he loved all the prostitues, or if a girl loves a guy enough to forgive him all those prostitutes?]
  • ... a short skirt on a windy day.
  • ... my broke-ass boyfriend.
  • ... having the bed all to myself.
  • ... a 250 note streak on Guitar Hero.

I did not intend to list that many things but I got started and just couldn't stop. :) Plus, I thought of a few of my own while compiling this list. So Jason, I love you more than sliding across our newly-polished hardwood floor in wool socks; more than "birthday sandwiches"; more than all of my childhood books; more than your huge faith in and support of my dreams; more than Lindt dark chocolate with chili pepper (the kind in the red foil that they don't sell in America); more than Nunzia's lasagna; more than I love that I'm a great speller; more than all of our travels; more than fuzzy new socks; more than I hated our horrible year apart; more than thinking I can figure something out and then actually figuring it out; more than the feeling of saying something in Italian and having the other person not only understand but compliment me on my pronunciation; more than finishing a Samurai Sudoku in the Washington Post; more than etsy sales to people I don't know; more than waking up two hours earlier than you on a day off so I can blog about silly things without feeling guilty that I should be doing something else (because most of those other things would wake you up); more than "Mary mashed 'em"; more than a DVR full of my favorite shows when I'm sick; more than I love knowing about aperture; more than singing a random song lyric and you singing the next line (or vice versa); more than I loved the phone call from the Dean of the University giving me $10K more a year, enabling me to go to the school I wanted; more than Inspired; more than moving beyond past injuries; and more than you telling me the other night, "I am so in love with you."

Weren't You Just Dying to Know? :P

The lovely Tena Sprenger tagged me for a questionnaire, so how could I resist? The "rules":
A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs & replace any question that they dislike with a new question. [Oh, I love this rule!]
B) Tag 8 people to do this quiz. [See below.]

1. How many songs are on your iPod?
It's not an iPod, it's a ZEN, and I don't have any idea. Too many! I got overzealous and put everything on there. I need to create some playlists so I can just listen to what I'm in the mood for at any given moment.

2. What music would you want played at your funeral?
This is a tough one! I'm not sure. I'm Lutheran and I really love the hymn "A Mighty Fortress" (it's sort of the Lutheran anthem, ha ha). It's not really funeral music but I really love it, so I'll just say that one for now. :)

3. Which magazines do you have subscriptions to?
Real Simple and Scrapbooks Etc.

4. What is your favorite scent?
I love the smell of cloves and cinnamon. Last winter I stocked up on the closeout fall candles and scent oils so I've had my autumn scents all year, ha ha!

5. If you had a million dollars that you could only spend on yourself, what would you do with it?
I would pay one of those consultants to come in and help me organize my home and studio the way I want it but can't seem to quite wrap my brain around how to do it! Then I would pay off the mortgage. And put in a jacuzzi bathtub and a sauna. And then I would invest the rest because all the stocks are so cheap right now and by the time we retire they'll probably be worth something again (hopefully!!!). :P

6. What is your theme song?
Mmmm, another tough one. At this point in my life it's Just Showed Up by Sara Groves. (Danger, clicking the Just Showed Up link will take you to a window with audio! For all you at-work blog surfers! :))

7. Do you trust easily?
Yes, I do, but I trust my instincts more! :) And they usually serve me well. :) So I easily trust people worth trusting. :)

8. Do you generally think before you act, or act before you think?
Ha ha. I definitely overthink before I act! :) Except, like Tena said, sometimes when it comes to scrapbook shopping, ha ha! :)

9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
Yes.

10. What do you most like about yourself?
I like the personal journey that I am on; I like the things I am figuring out as I'm getting older. I like that I love to help people and am always willing to lend a helping hand to whomever I see who needs it, whether I know them or not. I like that I can look at beautiful things and often think, "I can make that."

11. Is being tagged fun?
I'm thrilled that Tena thought of me! She's super talented... oh, wait, I think this is a separate question... :)

12. How do you spend your social networking (Facebook, etc.) time?
I started on Facebook a zillion years ago when you still had to have a .edu address to sign up! Nobody was on there yet; seriously, nobody from my high school and only a couple from college. So I later switched to MySpace since more of my military friends were on there. Now Facebook is huge and I keep finding more and more friends on there. Another way I do my "social networking" is by visiting all my friends' blogs and leaving comments, 'cause I know how much I like comments (hint, hint!). :)

13. What have you been seriously addicted to lately?
Uh, finding friends via the "You might know..." feature on Facebook, ha ha! No, I have been addicted to creating... scrapbook pages (check back later today!) and jewelry and a collage and photography, I am just feeling it all. And I've had a longtime love affair with sudoku, too. :)

14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
Tena is such an inspiration! She was an instructor at Inspired in April and she is soooo talented and soooo nice! I found myself in awe of her work and how down-to-earth she is. I bought two books she co-wrote with Carol Wingert (here and here) and I had a couple of questions, so I e-mailed Tena, and we've been e-mailing each other every-so-often since! I'm so happy that she's teaching a mini-workshop at next year's Inspired, it will be great to see her again!

15. What’s the last song that got stuck in your head?
Tena wrote Mercy by Duffy so that's been in my head since then. :)

16. What’s your favorite item of clothing?
I have a pair of CK Choice jeans that fit me like a glove. Of course Calvin Klein stopped making their Choice line, dangit!! And one of the back metal buttons is falling off, I need to figure out how to fix that. I also love my black Apple Bottom jeans. Yes, for real. Especially with those red shoes I mentioned yesterday; black jeans with red heels? Oh, just try to stop me!

17. Do you think Rice Crispies are yummy?
I don't like them as cereal but I love homemade Rice Crispy treats! It's a dang good thing for my waistline that I don't like to clean marshmallow goop out of my pots, because when I see them at a party, you'd better grab one quickly before I scarf them all up, yum yum. :)

18. What would you do if you saw $100 lying on the ground?
Well, I would of course see if I could locate the person who lost it! If that wasn't possible then if I found it today I would buy this and this. Yes, I don't have enough hobbies obsessions passions; now I want to learn silver fusing, too. :)

19. What items could you not go without during the day?
Oh, well, I could go without most things, of course. I like to have a little caffeine, a chat with my husband, a little creating, and to keep my e-mail inbox to around 30 messages. :)

20. What should you be doing right now?
Any number of the 837 things on my To Do list. Next up: laundry, more Hitchcock Blonde art (check back later today!), and lunch. :) After that: big plans. BIG. Go!

Now, I am generally not a big fan of tagging. It's a little bit of rebel sneaking out, I think; "Oh no you di'n't just tell me I have to do this!" :) But I was happy that Tena thought of me and since I could change any of the questions I thought I'd play along for once. :) So I'm going to go ahead and "tag" eight people, too, but take it from me: you don't have to do it if you don't want to. :)

My eight are: Katie, Kellie, Sooz, Aimee, Kerry, Cynthia, Jen, and Heather. All cool chicas whose blogs I check regularly... and you should too. :) Especially check out Jen's photos of her husband Brett eating asparagas... oh my stinkin' heck that is hilarious. :)

Damn You, Cathy Zielske

Cathy posted a link to this thing called Yearbook Yourself.

Don't go there. Don't click the link. Because if you do you will spend far too much time making things like this:

And this:

And, Lord help me, this:

p.s. I did not actually graduate in any of these years.

p.p.s. I swear that the 1994 head was stolen from my 1991 yearbook and her name was Candy Stigall. I was a loser freshman when she was a super-cool senior and one time I was in the girls' bathroom when she applied hairspray. I thought I was going to choke but had to pretend to be fine so she and the other seniors wouldn't think I was even more dorky than they probably already thought I was.

p.p.p.s. I don't have a complex, I was dorky in high school. I didn't hit my stride until much later. "High school is the best years of your life" my ass!

p.p.p.p.s. Jo (aka Jason's mom), I'm sorry I said damn and ass in the same post. Have fun in California. :)
